Running Your Business

For a solo operator, a free plan like Yardbook Starter or LawnPro Solo is usually enough. Growing crews look at LawnPro, Jobber or GorillaDesk for routes, recurring visits and autopay. Landscape companies that estimate big jobs look at LMN or Aspire. A custom system makes sense when calls and estimate requests never reach the tool.

The prices below come from each vendor's own pricing page, as listed on October 22, 2026. Vendors change them often, so check before you buy.

What should lawn care software do?

Run the route every week without the owner holding it all in their head. Lawn care is recurring work, so the software has to handle the same visit every 7 or 14 days, the crew's day and the payment, without anyone retyping it.

  • Recurring visits, weekly or every two weeks, with skips for rain.
  • Routes by day and area, so crews do not cross town twice.
  • A crew app with the address, gate notes and photos.
  • Card on file and autopay, so nobody chases checks.
  • Online requests and quotes for new customers and extra work.
  • Two-way texting from your business number.
  • Application records, if you spray weeds or pests.
  • A QuickBooks link, if that is where your books live.

What does lawn care software cost in 2026?

Free plans exist, low-cost plans start around $30 to $50 a month, and landscape-focused tools run about $300 to $650 a month. Some price by user, some by route and some by crew license, so compare at your real size.

Tool What it lists Worth knowing
Yardbook Starter free; Business $34.99 and Enterprise $49.99 a month Free plan is ad-supported, with a 1% fee on online payments
LawnPro Solo free; Startup $39, Grow $129, Plus $249 a month About 20 to 25% less billed yearly; routes and chemical programs from Grow; Solo is 1 user and up to 25 customers
GorillaDesk Basic $49, Pro $99, Growth $149 a month for 1 route Unlimited users; extra routes from $30 to $100 each; online booking from Pro
Jobber Core $49, Connect $139, Grow $199 a month for 1 user, paid monthly Routing and autopay from Connect; two-way texting on Grow; extra users $29 a month
Housecall Pro Basic $79, Essentials $189, Max $329 a month Routes from Essentials; recurring service plans on Max
Service Autopilot Startup $49, Pro $199, Pro Plus $499 a month Based on a yearly subscription, plus a sign-up fee; chemical tracking from Pro
LMN Starter $297, Professional $648 a month Includes crew licenses; one-time onboarding fee; built for landscape companies
Aspire, Real Green No price listed Quote only; built for larger companies

What does a two-crew company pay?

Here is the list-price math for two crews of two plus the owner: five people and two routes. It is arithmetic on the prices above, not a quote.

Plan A month A year
LawnPro Grow, up to 7 employees, billed yearly $99 $1,188
GorillaDesk Pro, 2 routes $149 $1,788
Housecall Pro Essentials, 5 users, billed yearly $149 $1,788
Jobber Connect, 5 users, paid monthly $199 $2,388
LMN Starter, plus an onboarding fee $297 $3,564

Then add card processing and texting. Several tools charge for texts or put two-way texting on higher plans. Ask each vendor to name both.

Which one fits your company?

Pick by the work you sell and how you grow, not by the longest feature list. Here is an honest starting point.

  • Solo mower. Yardbook Starter or LawnPro Solo. Spend first on answering calls and requests fast.
  • Two or three mowing crews. LawnPro, GorillaDesk or Jobber. Run a two-week trial with your real route and let a crew lead test the app.
  • Weed control and treatment rounds. Look for application records on the plan you would buy: GorillaDesk lists chemical-use records on Basic, and LawnPro and Service Autopilot put them on mid-tier plans.
  • Design-build landscape company. LMN or Aspire, since estimating and job costing matter more than mowing routes.

If one of these covers how you work, use it. That is often the right answer, and we say so on our free calls.

Do you need a license to spray weeds in Texas?

Yes, if you do it for hire. The Texas Department of Agriculture requires a license to apply any pesticide, weed killer included, to lawns, trees, ornamentals or weeds for hire. It says applicators who apply only fertilizer do not need one. Installing or repairing sprinklers needs a TCEQ irrigation license.

Software does not make you legal, but it helps you stay organized: note which crew member holds which license, and keep application records on the customer's property. Then the person answering the phone never has to guess.

When does a custom system make sense?

When estimate requests from calls, your website, Google and Facebook land in five places, when the spring rush buries the office, or when you sell mowing, landscaping and irrigation with different quoting rules. It rarely makes sense for a solo operator.

Often the answer is not a replacement. Elevate, a Houston AI, software and marketing studio led by Justin Davis, can keep the routing tool you already use and build what sits in front of it: a missed-call text-back that books estimates, one lead board with sources and quote follow-up. Read why the first reply wins the job for the case.

Custom vs rented vs doing it yourself

Rented lawn care software Built for you Doing it yourself
Cost to start Free plan or trial, then a monthly plan A build, priced on a free call Your time
Monthly cost By plan, user, route or crew license A flat monthly plan, no per-seat fee A spreadsheet is free
Routes and recurring visits Built in Usually kept in the tool you rent By hand
Your data Exportable, but the account is theirs You own the code, the data and the accounts Yours
Biggest risk Paying for features nobody uses Hiring the wrong builder Leads lost in texts and memory

What should you ask before you sign?

Take these questions to every demo, ours included.

  • What is the monthly total for my crews, my office and my routes?
  • Which plan has route optimization and autopay?
  • Can it text customers from my business number, and can they text back?
  • Does it keep application records, if we spray?
  • How do website forms and missed calls get in?
  • Can I export every customer, property and note if I leave?

Questions owners ask

What is the best lawn care software for a small business?

It depends on size. Solo operators often do fine on a free plan like Yardbook Starter or LawnPro Solo. Growing crews look at LawnPro, Jobber or GorillaDesk for routes, recurring visits and autopay. Landscape companies that estimate big jobs look at LMN or Aspire.

Is there free lawn care software?

Yes. On the pages we checked in October 2026, Yardbook's Starter plan is free and ad-supported, with a 1% fee on online payments, and LawnPro's Solo plan is free for 1 user and up to 25 customers.

Is Jobber good for lawn care?

For many lawn companies, yes. Jobber lists routing and autopay on Connect and up, and two-way texting on Grow. Compare it with lawn-only tools that put routes and application records on cheaper plans.

Do I need a license to spray weeds in Texas?

Yes, if you do it for hire. The Texas Department of Agriculture requires a license to apply any pesticide, weed killer included, to lawns, trees or weeds for hire. Fertilizer-only applicators do not need one.

Does Elevate build lawn care software?

We build the parts around your routing tool: the missed-call text-back, estimate requests that land in one place and quote follow-up. Every build is priced on a free 15 to 30 minute call, with one flat price in writing before work starts.
