A pest control answering service picks up when your technicians cannot. You have four options: a live answering service, an AI receptionist, the AI or texting built into your pest software, or a missed-call text-back. Most small pest companies do best with AI or a text-back for nights and overflow, and a person for treatment questions and upset customers.

Prices below come from each vendor's own page, as listed on October 22, 2026. They change often, so check before you sign.

What should a pest control answering service handle?

New leads first, then everything that can wait for a person. The caller wants to know someone heard them and when a technician will come. A good service, human or AI, collects the facts and books the visit.

  • New leads: what they are seeing, where in the home and the address.
  • Inspections with deadlines: termite and real estate inspections often come with a closing date.
  • Current customers: a re-service request between regular visits.
  • Stinging insects by a door: urgent enough that you should get an alert right away.
  • Treatment and safety questions: a licensed technician answers these, never the answering service.
  • Billing questions on service plans, which go to the office.

How much does a pest control answering service cost?

Live answering costs the most and is billed by the minute or the call. AI receptionists cost far less and are billed by the call, the minute or the caller. A text-back is usually part of a broader build or an add-on.

Service Type What it lists
Ruby Live receptionists $250 a month for 50 minutes, $395 for 100, $720 for 200, $1,725 for 500
Smith.ai Live receptionists $300 a month for 30 calls, $810 for 90, $2,100 for 300; extra calls $8.50 to $11.50
PATLive Live answering $49 a month plus $2.99 a minute, or $99 for 50 minutes up to $1,499 for 1,000
MAP Communications Live answering $49 a month plus $1.37 a minute, or $179 for 125 minutes up to $649 for 500
Specialty Answering Service Live answering $44 a month plus $1.54 a minute, or $159 for 100 minutes
Smith.ai AI-first AI receptionist Free for 25 calls, then $3.00 a call; Pro from $150 a month for 75 calls
Aira AI receptionist $24.95 a month for 30 calls, up to $299 for 600 calls
Goodcall AI receptionist $79 a month for 100 unique callers, $129 for 500, $299 for 2,000
Rosie AI receptionist $49 a month for 250 minutes, $149 for 1,000, $299 for 2,000

AnswerConnect shows plans only after you fill out a contact form, so it is not listed.

Does your pest software already answer calls?

Check this before you buy anything. Some pest control software now does part of the job.

  • GorillaDesk sells AI agents, including a phone agent that answers calls and one that follows up on missed calls. The AI price is not on its pricing page.
  • PestPac lists two-way texting, email, web chat and automated reminders. We did not find inbound AI call answering.
  • FieldRoutes' product and pricing pages show no built-in call answering. Its blog points to partner services.
  • Jobber, which some pest companies use, sells an AI receptionist add-on for $29 a month.

If your software's add-on books inspections the way you want, it is likely the cheapest choice.

Live, AI or text back: which fits?

Live answering AI receptionist Missed-call text-back
Who answers A person, on the call AI, on the call A text within a minute, after the call is missed
How it bills Minutes or calls Calls, minutes or callers Usually part of a build or an add-on
Good at Upset customers, long questions Nights, overflow, quick booking Recovering callers who hang up
Weak at Cost at high volume Unusual questions Callers who will not text
Watch for Scripts that drift into advice Answers outside your rules Texting rules: consent and STOP

Many companies mix them: a text-back on every missed call, AI after hours and a person for anything about treatment or billing.

What should it never say?

Anything that sounds like treatment advice or a safety promise. Texas rules ban false or misleading pest control advertising and list claims like "safe," "non-toxic to humans and pets," "environmentally friendly" and "organic" among the examples (4 TAC §7.152). Keep them out of scripts and texts too.

  • No diagnosis from a description or a photo.
  • No promises, like "one treatment and they are gone."
  • No prices unless you set them.
  • No paperwork shortcuts. For indoor home treatments, the technician gives the owner the state's consumer information sheet. That stays with your team.

This is not legal advice. Ask the Texas Department of Agriculture or your lawyer about your own scripts.

What happens to the calls you miss?

Most of them are gone within minutes. In a CallRail survey of 1,000 US consumers, 42% said they leave a voicemail when nobody answers, and 21% said they immediately call another business. People notice roaches at night and wasps on the weekend, which is exactly when your office is closed.

How do you set it up without losing customers?

Start small, read every conversation for the first weeks and adjust.

  1. Pick the hours. Nights and weekends only, overflow during the day, or both.
  2. Write the script with your services, your area and what to collect.
  3. List the urgent words that alert you right away, like "stung" or "closing date."
  4. Set booking rules: which days, which areas, how far out.
  5. Follow texting rules. Text only people who reached out, honor STOP and register your number for business texting (A2P 10DLC).
  6. Call your own line after hours and see what a customer sees.

When is a cheaper tool enough?

If you get a handful of after-hours calls a week, a basic AI plan or your software's add-on is often enough. If calls and web requests come in from five places and nobody knows which ads bring service plans, a single system is worth more. Elevate, a Houston AI, software and marketing studio led by Justin Davis, builds that kind of system: a missed-call text-back that books inspections, one lead board with sources and a follow-up that offers ongoing service. Compare the wider options in AI receptionist vs answering service.

Questions owners ask

How much does a pest control answering service cost?

On the vendor pages we checked in October 2026, live answering ran from $44 a month plus per-minute fees up to $2,100 a month for 300 calls, and most AI receptionist plans from about $25 to $300 a month. Compare them at your real call volume.

Can an AI receptionist book pest control inspections?

Yes, if it connects to the calendar or field software you use. Ask the vendor to show a booking landing in your schedule, with the address and the pest noted, before you sign.

Should an answering service answer treatment safety questions?

No. Hand those to a licensed technician. Texas pest control advertising rules list claims like "safe" and "non-toxic to humans and pets" as misleading, and an answering script should not make them either.

Does GorillaDesk or FieldRoutes answer calls?

GorillaDesk sells AI agents, including one that answers calls and one that follows up on missed calls. FieldRoutes' own pages show no built-in AI phone and point to partners. PestPac lists two-way texting. Check what you already pay for first.

Does Elevate set up call handling for pest control companies?

Yes. We build the missed-call text-back, inspection booking and the follow-up that offers a service plan, around the field software you use. Every build is priced on a free 15 to 30 minute call.
