The best car detailing content shows real work on real cars: before and afters, the process, the reveal and answers to the questions customers ask. Post short vertical Reels, keep them original, label AI edits the way Meta asks and never fake a review or a result. Tint shops should never post front-window darkness that Texas law does not allow.
The ideas below fit detail, ceramic coating, paint protection film and tint shops. Every rule cited was checked on October 22, 2026.
What should a detail shop post?
Rotate five kinds of posts, all from your own bays. Here are 20 ideas to start with.
Before and after
- The 50/50. Half the hood corrected, half not, in one steady shot.
- The interior reset. Floor mats, seats and the cup holders nobody else cleans.
- Headlights. Yellowed to clear, side by side.
- Wheels and tires. Brake dust off, dressing on.
- The full reveal. The car rolling out of the bay into daylight.
Process
- Foam and contact wash, filmed close and slow.
- Decontamination, with the clay or iron remover doing visible work.
- Polishing passes, with the paint under a light before and after.
- Coating going on, panel by panel.
- Film or tint install, from the first squeegee pass to the last edge.
Proof
- Water behavior on a coated car months later, with the date on screen.
- The film's spec sheet next to the install, instead of a number you made up.
- The handover, with the customer's permission and the plate blurred.
Answers
- Coating or wax? Thirty seconds, plain words.
- Paint protection film or coating? What each one does and does not do.
- How to wash a coated car at home.
- What tint is legal in Texas? See the rules below.
People and timing
- Meet the installer, in their own words.
- A day in the shop, start to finish.
- Seasonal work, like cleanups after Houston's pollen and lovebug seasons, with a real offer if you have one.
How long should detailing Reels be?
Short. Instagram lets you record Reels up to 20 minutes, but says Reels longer than 3 minutes are not recommended to people who do not already follow you. In January 2025 Instagram raised that limit to 3 minutes from 90 seconds. If you plan to boost a Reel, it must be 90 seconds or less, full-screen vertical and without licensed music.
Most process clips work best well under a minute. Save the long walk-through for people who already follow you.
Does reposting other shops' videos hurt?
It does not help. Instagram announced in April 2024 that original posts replace exact copies in recommendations, that copies get a label linking to the original and that aggregator accounts are removed from recommendations. It also asks for posts without visible watermarks from other apps.
The good news for a detail shop: every car you touch is original content. Film it.
How do trial reels help a small shop?
They let you test an idea on new people first. Instagram's trial reels, launched in December 2024, are shown to non-followers before your followers see them, and you get results in about a day. If one does well, you can share it to your followers. They are available to public accounts that meet Instagram's follower minimum.
Use them to test hooks: the 50/50 shot first, or the reveal first.
Can you use AI in detailing content?
For editing, yes. For results, never. AI is good at cutting clips, writing captions, cleaning up audio and resizing a video for each placement. It should never invent the "after," smooth paint you did not correct or add a car you did not touch.
Meta also asks people to label photorealistic video or realistic audio that was digitally created or altered, using its "AI info" label. Use the platform's label when it applies. That is how we work in AI content production: more out of every real shoot, never a fake result.
What about reviews, giveaways and collabs?
Keep them real and disclosed. The FTC's rule on reviews and testimonials, in effect since October 2024, bans fake reviews and testimonials, rewards tied to a positive review and buying fake followers or views.
If you give a creator a free coating or film install for a post, the FTC's endorsement guidance treats that as a connection that needs a clear disclosure, like "#ad." Ask for reviews the right way with how to get more Google reviews.
What tint content breaks Texas law?
Anything that sells front-window darkness Texas does not allow. The Texas DPS tint standards say:
| Window | The rule |
|---|---|
| Windshield | Tint only above the AS-1 line, or the top 5 inches |
| Front side windows | At least 25% light transmission and no more than 25% reflectance |
| Rear side windows | Exempt |
| Rear window | No limit if the car has outside mirrors on both sides |
Texas law also requires a compliance label installed between the film and the glass, and a tint business that skips it commits a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $1,000. So post the legal options, show the label going on and let customers choose within the law.
A simple weekly plan
Here is an example week for a small shop. It is a starting point, not a rule.
| Day | Post | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | A before and after from last week | Reel |
| Wednesday | One process clip | Reel or trial reel |
| Thursday | One customer question, answered | Short talking Reel |
| Saturday | The reveal of the week's best car | Reel plus Story |
Film as you work, a few clips per car. Spend your time on the work, then on the edit.
Where to go from here
If you would rather spend your time on cars than captions, see our social media content page. We make content from your real work and you approve everything before it posts. Elevate, a Houston AI, software and marketing studio led by Justin Davis, also runs its own paint protection film and tint shop, so these ideas come from a real bay. See what we would build for your shop on our page for detail and tint shops, and book a free call when you are ready. Every project is priced on that call, with one flat price in writing.
